The Postal Service came to Grenada during colonization by the British in the eighteenth century. Until January 23, 1997 the Post Office served as a department within the Ministry of Communications and Works.

The Grenada Postal Corporation was established by Act 21 of 1996 which commenced on January 24, 1997 to provide postal services on a strictly commercial basis.

Our Employees
The Grenada Postal Corporation employs one hundred and fifty (150) employees to serve its customers.

Prior to January 24,1997
All major decisions were made by the Ministry of Communications and works.

Annual expenditures were part of Grenada's National Budget.

Traditional revenue streams then were:
Stamps Sales
Express Mail, Registered Mail
Parcels and Packets
Commissions on Postal and Money Orders
Private letterboxes Philately
Customs clearance fees

The Post Office commercialization process commenced on January were 24, 1997. At that time all Policy- making decisions were passed to a seven member Board of Directors.

According to the Act establishing the Grenada Postal Corporation the Corporation:
Has exclusive right to provide postal services throughout Grenada.
May provide limited banking services.
Has the exclusive right to permit and sell stamps in Grenada.
Has the exclusive right to rent or lease post boxes.
